Re:   Health & Safety – Heating Temperature In-Store

Dear Mr. Lynch,

It’s has been reported to this office by several of our members that the temperature in your store is below the required standard.

In light of these reports, Mandate has launched an online petition open to staff, and a significant proportion of the staff have already supported it. The petition states:

“We, the workers of Dunnes Westside, would like to remind management of their responsibility to staff, especially with regards to the store’s temperature. As you are aware, the weather has gotten colder and, with the open fridges in the store, the temperature inside has become uncomfortable because the heating is not being turned on enough during the day.

We are requesting that this be corrected immediately to ensure that the temperature inside the store is maintained at a comfortable level for the benefit of staff and customers.”

As an employer, you have a legal responsibility to provide a safe and healthy workplace for all employees. The lack of heating in your store is unacceptable, and I am requesting you take immediate action to ensure that the store’s heating is turned on and kept at a comfortable temperature while staff are working.

I hope you will take this issue seriously and agree that this situation cannot continue.

Yours Sincerely,

John Carty

RE: Health & Safety Westside Store – Heating Temperature In-Store

Dear Sir/Madam,

This letter is in reference to our correspondence dated 13th of December 2022, which was sent to Mr John Lynch, Store Manager at Dunnes Westside. (I have included said correspondence for your ease of reference). In that letter, I raised concerns about the inadequate heating temperature in the store and requested immediate action to address this issue.

It has been brought to my attention that the situation has not yet been resolved, despite my request for immediate action. I trust that you will afford this matter your urgent attention as this workplace situation cannot be allowed to continue.

Should a satisfactory response not be received within seven working days of the date of this letter, I will take further instruction from our members in order to protect their right to a safe and healthy workplace environment.

I am available to meet with the company at short notice to resolve this outstanding matter.

Yours Sincerely,
