Re: Mandate Delegate Conference, Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar, Co Mayo, 4/5 April 2022

Date: 7 April 2022

Dear Delegate

As you are aware, on Tuesday of this week in Castlebar, we completed our first delegate conference in four years and the general feeling from those in attendance was that it was a very productive and enjoyable event.

There can be no doubt that this outcome was largely down to the constructive engagement by the delegates in attendance, so I just wanted to say a big thank you for that.  Personally, it was great to meet up with so many of you in person again. For those of you who couldn’t attend the conference because of contracting Covid at the last minute I wish you a speedy recovery.

Based on the range of motions passed and the sense of enthusiasm and commitment displayed by you the delegates it is clear that post conference we all must turn our attention to stabilising and growing your union.  I want to assure you that the staff of the union will do everything they can to support you our volunteer activists in your organising and recruiting activities within the various workplaces in which you are employed.  Critical to achieving a successful outcome in this regard is the immediate task of maintaining and growing store-based union committees/representatives along with Local Council structures.  We are currently working on a special conference digital edition of our magazine Shopfloor which will be distributed to all members in the near future.

As I said in my address to conference the challenges facing us will be difficult but not impossible to achieve and working together in common purpose, we can start making inroads towards maintaining Mandate Trade Union as the powerful and influential voice of retail workers for many years to come.  Remember every new member recruited strengthens our ability to do this.

Yours sincerely
For Mandate Trade Union

Gerry Light
General Secretary
