RE: HEALTH & SAFETY MATTER – STORE TEMPERATURES

Following on from calls into this office about low temperatures in the Patrick Street store, we sought an urgent meeting, attended also by your Shop Steward. The following is the formal response from management.

“In confirm ,store did receive some queries from some colleagues about the temperatures in store yesterday Thursday 8th Dec 2022.
I advised colleagues that the heating system was turned on and working .I asked our P&C dept to advise colleagues that if they were cold, that they could wear gloves, scarves and extra layers of clothing under their Penneys uniform if they felt there was a need too. I did stress that they layering had to be under their uniform/X mass jumper so as to be identifiable to our customers and for health and safety reasons IE in event of an evacuation.
I instructed our operations manager to turn the heating system from Auto to manual and to run the heating consistently across the day.
I had Mitte ( facilities maintenance company )attend store this morning Friday 9th Dec and review the heating system and its output .
Report back from Mitte engineer was that the heating system is functioning correctly and that all required boilers were firing .Both myself and the Mitte engineer walked the salesfloor and spot-checked numerous areas on the floor including the areas directly inside the doors and got temperature reading ranging between 24 and 26 degrees.
I have Instructed management to ensure heating system is set to hand at 4am over this cold spell .
I have also requested that management do temperature readings periodically over the coming days to ensure a consistent temperature across the store .
We always strive to provide a safe & healthy working environment for all of our Colleagues.
My intention is to continue monitoring heating in store and address if required .
