Mandate Members Tesco – Pay & Benefits Claim Update

Dear Members,

Further to our last update regarding your Pay & Benefits on June 18th we would like to bring to your attention some positive developments.

Arising from correspondence sent by your Union, Tesco’s new People Director, Mr. Maurice Kelly has confirmed in a letter to Mandate, on Monday last, that the company is agreeable to commencing discussions with your Union regarding your pay and benefits claim.

Mr. Kelly further outlined that the Company will engage in meaningful discussion with your union and will give an overview of the company’s long-term business plans etc. Click Here to view correspondence in full.

Mandate Response

In response your Union’s General Secretary, Gerry Light has replied to the company accepting the invitation, within the framework of the established collective agreements. Click Here to view correspondence in full.

Regional Shop Stewards’ Meetings

The matter was also discussed at the Regional Shop Stewards’ meetings which were held across most of the country yesterday evening. The commitment to meaningful negotiations was broadly welcomed by the Shop Stewards as a positive development.  

Next Steps & Negotiating Team

Accordingly the negotiations are now due to commence on July 12th. The process to elect a negotiating committee has commenced in earnest at the Regional Shop Stewards’ meetings, whereby a representative from each of the Divisions within the union (9 in total) has/will be elected to a National Strategy Team. From that Strategy Team, 5 members, representative of the various contract types will be elected to a National Negotiating Committee to represent your interests at the discussions along with your Union’s Officials.

Next Regional Shop Stewards Meeting

The next scheduled Regional Shop Stewards’ meeting will take place on July 27th. These meetings have proven to be very beneficial to members. The attendance levels at these meetings have grown over the last few months, but if for whatever reason your store is not being represented, please get in touch.
